Eatons Neck Lighthouse

For more than a century, the Eatons Neck Lighthouse in Centerport has served as a navigational aid. It is one of only two lighthouses from the 18th century still standing in New York State. The other is located at Montauk Point Light.

This lighthouse has been in operation since 1798 and was designed by John McComb, Jr. The tower still holds the lighthouse’s only active Fresnel lens. It is located on a bluff overlooking Long Island Sound. It is the second-oldest lighthouse on Long Island, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Eatons Neck Lighthouse was built in 1850 and was equipped with a third-order Fresnel lens and 15-inch reflectors. In 1868, it underwent a restoration and expansion. It was later converted to electrical power. In 1921, it was electrified. In 1992, it was damaged by a nor’easter. Despite its age, the Eatons Neck Lighthouse still serves as a navigational aid.

Sagamore Hill

Nearby parks include Belmont Lake State Park, Hempstead Harbor Park, and the Bartlett Arboretum.

The Nassau County Museum of Art is another popular attraction in the Centerport area. The tour is free and educational. Visitors are encouraged to dress in business-casual attire for the tours. To make sure that you can make a reservation for a tour, call the historic groups ahead of time. Make sure to bring cash when purchasing tickets; some do not accept credit cards.

Huntington

Huntington Beach in Centerport, New York is located near Centerport Park and the Huntington Beach Community Association Pavilion. The beach is also close to the Northport Power Station, also known as “The Stacks” by locals. The area is part of the hamlet of Centerport, a census-designated place in Suffolk County. The town lies on Long Island’s affluent northern shore.

Huntington Beach is located next to Huntington Village, and is a perfect spot for family fun. There are several water activities available, including kayaking, paddle-boarding, and lighthouse tours.
